Chocolate Mousse for Beginners

Ingredients:
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
2 large eggs, separated
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 cup heavy whipping cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Pinch of salt

Instructions:

1. Melt the Chocolate:
– In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the chocolate chips and butter. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth. Let it cool slightly.

2. Prepare the Eggs:
– In a medium bowl, whisk the egg yolks and sugar together until light and creamy.
– Gradually add the melted chocolate to the egg yolk mixture, whisking constantly until well combined.

3. Beat the Egg Whites:
– In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites with a pinch of salt until they form stiff peaks. Gently fold the beaten egg whites into the chocolate mixture until well incorporated.

4. Whip the Cream:
– In another bowl, beat the heavy whipping cream and vanilla extract until it forms soft peaks. Be careful not to overwhip.

5. Combine:
– Gently fold the whipped cream into the chocolate mixture until fully combined and smooth.

6. Chill:
– Spoon the mousse into individual serving dishes or a large bowl. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until set.

7. Serve:
– Serve the chocolate mousse chilled. You can garnish with whipped cream, chocolate shavings, or fresh berries if desired.
