Ingredients:
- 2 cups milk (any type: whole, skim, or plant-based)
- 1 teaspoon ground turmeric (or 1 tablespoon fresh turmeric, grated)
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper (enhances turmeric absorption)
- 1-2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup (to taste; optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional, for added flavor)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
Instructions:
1. Heat the Milk:
- Pour the milk into a small saucepan.
- Heat over medium heat until it is warm but not boiling. Stir occasionally to prevent the milk from scorching.
2. Add Turmeric and Spices:
- Once the milk is warm, add the ground turmeric and ground black pepper (and cinnamon if using).
- Stir well to combine the spices with the milk.
3. Simmer:
- Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer gently for about 5 minutes. This allows the turmeric to infuse into the milk. Stir occasionally.
4. Sweeten and Flavor:
- If desired, stir in honey or maple syrup to sweeten the milk. Adjust the amount according to your taste.
- Add vanilla extract if you like.
5. Strain and Serve:
- If you used fresh turmeric or if there are any spice clumps, strain the milk through a fine mesh sieve into a mug.
- Serve hot.
